This species has gained terrain in the Autoline fisheries over the latest few years. The catch efficiency is deemed to be like mackerel, but the body shape is optimal for more equal size baits per kilo than the ellipse shaped mackerel.

The Pacific Saury has a body length of 25-28 cm and is harvested in large parts of the pacific ocean. The harvest is considered sustainable according to IUCN.
